BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Six ski resorts in our region are already open for the season. Friday, three more open up.
Stowe, Sugarbush, Stratton Mountain, Okemo, Mount Snow and Killington have been open for at least a week now.
Friday, Smugglers' Notch, Jay Peak and Bromley Mountain will open up. Tourism officials say most aim to open by the holiday weekend if temperatures are cooperating, allowing them to make snow.
"It helps to spur that decision-making to make that season pass purchase in advance and that really gets people's juices flowing for the upcoming season. So, having some resorts open early really helps," Vt. Deputy Tourism Commissioner Steve Cook said.
Tourism officials say Vermont led the country with the largest number of in-state resorts open before Thanksgiving this year.
