Hundreds of Montpelier community members came together for Thanksgiving dinner at the Bethany Church.
The 40th annual community Thanksgiving is organized by the Washington County Boys and Girls Club. They expect to deliver 255 meals and serve 300 this year, all with the help of 150 volunteers.
A surprise item on the menu was a visit by the fire department. Everyone had to evacuate after an alarm sounded because of poor ventilation in the kitchen. No one was hurt and people were back into the building quickly.
"It's so important. There's so many people that go hungry or don't have family, this is a great way for people to come together and be part of the community," said Kerena Lepan of the Washington County Boys & Girls Club.
"When you pull like that it means a lot, people come together you meet friends and stuff like that," said Kenyon Crifford, one of the diners.
The 50 turkeys were cooked ahead of time by volunteers.
