Canadian visitors allowed more duty-free goods

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

New tax rules are making it easier to court Canadian shoppers and retailers hope it pays off this holiday season.

Since June, Canadians visiting the U.S. have been allowed to return home with more duty-free goods. The limit is now $200 for overnight visitors and $800 for those staying longer than 48 hours.

"I think it is very much worth it because you can't find things like this in Montreal even if people say it costs to go for gas, everything is worth it," said Melody Negant, a shopper from Canada.

Canadian shoppers reminded us they celebrate Thanksgiving in October, so coming to Vermont to shop did not interfere with their holiday routines.
