KILLINGTON, Vt. -
The town of Killington currently has only one acting constable, and now that officer is asking the town for backup during the ski season.
Second Constable Whit Montgomery is asking for an 8 percent budget increase to hire two part-time officers for the busy winter time. The Rutland Herald reports that during peak season there is a ratio of 15,000 out-of-staters for every one officer.
The former first constable and special officer both left their posts earlier this year, so now Montgomery is all alone.
He says if his budget requests are approved, he could hire at least one officer by this winter.
