MONTPELIER, Vt. -
Montpelier city councilors are giving the go-ahead to a construction contract for a wood chip-fired heating plant.
The council voted 4-1 in favor of the city's $3.7 million contract.
The state is working with the city to build this plant, designed to reduce toxic emissions and save 150,000 gallons of oil each year.
It will supply heat and hot water to state facilities and city buildings, and is expected to be online by next fall.
