BARRE, Vt. -
Teenagers can be tough to please, especially when it comes to clothes.
Keeping up with the newest trends can be expensive, especially for formal occasions. That's what made Patty Hansen of Barre take things into her own hands. She created "Princess for a Night," where girls can borrow dresses to wear to the Montpelier High School Winter Ball. The dresses were donated to Hansen from community members.
Hansen's daughter, Allison, drowned when she was 11. She never went to a school dance. Loaning out these dresses is Patty's way of honoring her daughter.
"There were a lot of girls who weren't going to go to the winter ball because they had no dresses. I never went to a dance because I had to use my sister's and I didn't want to. This way they don't have to and no one needs to know where they came from either," Patty Hansen said.
"It's a lot different than shopping in a store. It's really expensive in a store. It's easier to find a dress here because it's free," said daughter Misty, 16.
Patty Hansen will be loaning out dresses Thursday and Friday at the Barre Auditorium.
