MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Public Service Board is rejecting requests by the owner of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant that it be allowed to continue operating without the approval of the board.
In an order dated Thursday, the board also rejected a request by the plant's owner, Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee, that it modify conditions of its order limiting the amount of spent nuclear fuel that could be stored on the grounds of the Vernon reactor.
Vermont Yankee's initial 40-year operating permit expired on March 21. The state had sought to close the plant, but a federal court judge ruled the plant could continue operating. The state of Vermont has appealed the court order
But a separate legal battle is being carried out about the PSB's role in governing the plant.
