Two car collision causes fatality

HIGHGATE, Vt. -

A two car-crash in Highgate has claimed a life.

In happened Saturday on Route 207near the intersection of Cook Road. According to first responders on scene each car had one person inside. Both vehicles sustained serious damage and fire fighters had to use the jaws of life to free the drivers.

"We had firefighters checking both patients. we noticed they were both trapped, and we had to use the jaws to get them out," said Highgate Fire Chief Dick Souza.

According to state police, 35-year-old Marissa Knight of St. Albans, died at the scene. The driver of the other car, 23-year-old Nicole Green of Highgate, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Route 207 was closed for several hours while Vermont State Police investigated the accident.
