PITTSFORD, Vt. -
A Pittsford hunter is hospitalized with a gun-shot wound following a self-inflicted hunting accident.
Police say 61 year-old Richard B. Allen lost control of his four-wheeler Sunday. During the crash his 50 caliber muzzle loader discharged, striking him in the left shoulder.
Police said he walked one mile before finding help. He was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery.
Police say the accident is under investigation but that speed and alcohol were not factors.
