International Festival celebrates 20 years

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. -

Holiday shoppers got a chance to buy local and international Sunday.

The Essex Fairgrounds hosted the 20th annual International Festival this weekend. More than 5,000 visitors were expected to take in shows, enjoy food from different cultures and find those perfect last minute gifts.
     
Event organizer Ben Bergstein said a lot has changed over 20 years but their purpose remains the same. "We started this thing as a way of getting people to know about all the people who have come to live here in Vermont from other countries," he said.

Bergstein said the area is far more diverse now than it was when they began 20 years ago.
The festival also has an education component, and more than one-thousand school kids visited on Friday when the show opened.
