Driver tries to flee from police, crashes

SUTTON, Vt. -

State police say a driver tried to speed away from officers before going off the road.

Police say 60-year-old Dale Stone of Sutton illegally passed an unmarked State Police cruiser on Route 5 Sunday evening.

When the officer then tried to pull Stone over, he gunned the engine, swerving and hitting mailboxes. Police say he flew off the road trying to regain control, hitting a flag pole, yard furniture and a tractor.

Stone was cited for DUI.
