The company seeking to double the size of the Moretown landfill has asked the town's Development Review Board for a delay in its application while it addresses state regulatory violations.
The state recently cited Advanced Disposal for a dozen violations ranging from ongoing odor issues to stormwater runoff.
The landfill, which is set to run out of capacity by early next year, has been trying to get approval to double the facility's size. But in a letter this week, company officials asked for a continuance on that application so that they can focus their efforts on operating the current site.
Meanwhile, the landfill has been diverting some of the solid waste to other out-of-state facilities it owns.
Moretown and Coventry are the only two certified landfills in Vermont.
