NH Legislature sworn in Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

New Hampshire's new Legislature is being sworn in Wednesday and electing leaders for both the House and Senate.

Democrat Terie Norelli of Portsmouth is expected to be elected as House speaker, while Republican Peter Bragdon of Milford has the votes to keep his position as president of the Senate.

Democrats will take control of the House after this November's election. They hold 219 of the 400 seats, compared to 178 Republicans.

And on the Senate side, Democrats gained seats there too, but not enough to take control. Republicans hold a 13-11 majority.
