Human Rights Commissioner Appel to step down

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Vermont's longtime Human Rights Commissioner is stepping down.

Robert Appel has held the top office since 2001 leading discrimination cases, including the case of a gay couple who were denied wedding at a Lyndonville Inn.

Appel, 61, will become a lawyer in a private practice with a Hinesburg law firm.
