MONTPELIER, Vt. -
The state's cut-your-own firewood lottery is back this year, after being canceled last year because of storm damage from Irene.
Under the program, residents are allowed to harvest up to 3 cords of wood from state forest land and pay just $10 a cord. The trees are marked for cutting near forest roads. Eighty-one lots are being made available this year in eight towns.
Because demand usually exceeds availability, the lots are awarded through a lottery system. You can register online at www.vtfpr.org or call 802-241-3678 for more information.
