UVM: Email notification system fixed

Posted: Updated:

The University of Vermont says it has fixed the computer problem that prevented a campus email update about Monday night's stabbings on campus.

UVM police decided the violent drug deal gone wrong was quickly under control and that it did not warrant a CAT Emergency Alert that is used to notify the campus when students could be in danger. But when police went to send a non-emergency alert about the situation, a bug prevented the email from going out. UVM says that CAT emergency system was-- and is-- working.

"The other system, the one that would be employed if there was an active immediate threat to the campus, that one is fully operational, external to the university and there are no issues with it whatsoever," said Enrique Corredera, a spokesman for UVM.

UVM says the non-emergency notification system was preparing for an upgrade Monday night. The system has now been fixed.
