Benjamin MayberryNASHUA, N.H. (AP) - Two men taken into custody in connection with the shooting of a man in New Hampshire say the victim accidentally shot himself in the head with a handgun while showing it off.
Daniel DeGrace, 31, and Benjamin Mayberry, 30, were taken into custody in Newport, Vt., on Monday, near the U.S.-Canadian border. They were identified as "potential witnesses" to the Sunday shooting in Nashua.
The Telegraph of Nashua reports the victim was identified in court papers as Billy Jo Parker. A prosecutor told investigators he was comatose and in critical, but stable condition.
Court papers say DeGrace and Mayberry said they stole guns from a Vermont home. They are facing federal weapons charges.
They said they sold a pink .22-caliber handgun to Parker, who accidentally shot himself with it.
