The state's athletic directors approved realignment for high school football in a meeting Thursday in Montpelier. All that awaits is the stamp of approval by the Vermont Principles association. The biggest change will come in Division III. Otter Valley, U-32 and Springfield will be joining on as Montpelier leaves to play a JV schedule. With 12 teams in Division III, the top 8 will qualify for the postseason, which will now start on week 9, similar to Division I.
Spaulding is the only team leaving D-I, headed for Division II. D-I is now 13 teams strong, so that means the team that finishes last in the division will not play a game on week 9. D-II is still an 8 team division, so it's business as usual with the top 4 teams going to the playoffs. This alignment would be good for the next two seasons.
