SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. -
The major health care provider in the Adirondacks is cutting jobs as part of a long-term restructuring plan.
Adirondack Health, which includes the hospital in Saranac Lake and seven satellite facilities, announced Friday it is laying off 17 people and leaving eight other jobs unfilled. The organization will also freeze pay for management and make other spending cuts.
Adirondack Health officials say major cuts in reimbursements for government health care programs mean they are losing money at an unsustainable rate.
