MORETOWN, Vt. -
Owners of the Moretown landfill say they have a last ditch proposal for state regulators.
The state has given the company until Monday to prove they can get their odor problems under control before considering an expansion plan. Advanced Disposal says they want to place a temporary cap over more than five acres of the site and stop accepting foul-smelling sludge. But state officials say the landfill has a long history of problems. Governor Peter Shumlin says it's a quality of life issue. If the state does not approve the plan, the landfill could be forced to close early next year when it runs out of room.
