BURLINGTON, Vt. -
This time of year candy canes are typically found in stockings. But Saturday, families searched high and low in the forest for the holiday sweets.
Recreation specialist Susan Carter hid candy canes in a small wooded out-cropping in Burlington's new North End. Rules allowed each child to take home up to five. Event organizers say the candy cane hunt is new this year, but is a natural extension of other holiday events.
"We've hidden pumpkins in the forest for Halloween events for our after school program, so we thought, why not do it for candy canes?" commented Susan Carter with Burlington Parks & Recreation.
More than 50 children took advantage of Saturday's hunt.
Kids also met Frosty the Snowman and Maurice the Moose once they finished searching.
