RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges related to a high-speed chase.
Charles Whittemore of Wallingford was accused of approaching speeds of over 100 mph in Clarendon in August as police pursued him. He was eventually arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of driving without a license, careless or negligent operation of a motor vehicle and attempting to elude police.
The Rutland Herald reports Sheriff's Deputy Joseph Castle said he was on patrol when the car passed him at a high rate of speed. He said he had recognized it as a car he had towed earlier in the day due to lack of registration and insurance.
