Health care will be a big focus when Vermont lawmakers return to work next month.
Democrats strongly control the House. They are working to set up a federally mandated health care exchange by 2014. That's where people can go to buy insurance. Democrats also want to also pass a single-payer system in 2017. Republicans lost seats after the election and have just 45 members. Republican leaders say although they can't stop legislation-- their goal is to impact debate by bringing in businesses impacted and focusing on the bottom line.
"We are really going to hammer how much will it cost because the governor said over and over, if we find out it's too expensive we are going to scrap it and start over. I don't know how many times I heard that," said Rep. Don Turner, R-Milton.
Republicans say they want to push to make the health care exchange as competitive and open as possible.
