Cool lunch helps fund COTS program

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Burlington diners ate lunch outside in the cold Thursday as part of the fifth annual COTS Coolest Lunch in Town.

Five local restaurants participated in the fundraiser in which $20 gets patrons a drink and entrée they eat outside in the cold. All the money supports the prevention program at COTS. The Coolest Lunch raises around $5,000, which is enough to help five families that are close to eviction or foreclosure keep their housing.

"I don't think it's quite the same. They don't get a heads up if they're staying outside and we're doing it on a sunny day, but it's nice to see people doing something in solidarity with those folks," said Christian Camerota, one of the diners at the Coolest Lunch.

COTS says the prevention program that helps folks keep their current housing has a 96 percent success rate.
