MSJ students embark on 'Project Help'

Posted: Updated:
RUTLAND, Vt. -

Students at Mount St. Joseph Academy are prepping for the 46th annual Project Help.

The students are wrapping donated gifts and getting organized for their annual charitable drive. They'll be going door to door in Rutland asking residents for canned good donations. Those goods, along with the already donated presents and food items will be boxed up and delivered to the families on Friday.

Organizers strive to give each family a week's worth of meals and gifts for Christmas.  "There's always other people who don't have what we have and I think that's a big part of it.  And also, truthfully, what the true meaning of Christmas is. It's not about what you get, it's about what you give," said the Academy's Sarah Fortier.

School officials said they are helping 40 more families this year than last thanks to generous donations. They anticipate having extra items that they'll donate to area shelters.
