Sen. Bernie Sanders is joining with veterans groups to fight cuts in disability benefits.
Sanders held a press conference Wednesday with leaders of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. They say cuts in benefits for more than 3 million disabled veterans and their families should not be part of the fiscal cliff deal.
"Tell the White House and the leadership in Congress-- do not balance the budget on the backs of disabled veterans who have lost their arms, their legs and their eyesight defending our country," said Sanders, I-Vermont.
The American Legion says it understands the need to restore fiscal discipline, but it should not be done by reneging on the country's promise to veterans.
