MORRISVILLE, Vt. (AP) - A 22-year-old Vermont man is facing poaching charges after game wardens say he shot what they're describing as a "mature antlered buck" in Morrisville after the close of deer season.
Wardens say Skylar Poleio was arrested at about 11:15 p.m. Dec. 14 after he and another person went to retrieve the buck.
Wardens say they received a 911 call that night from someone who heard a gunshot on Cote Hill Road in Morrisville.
Wardens, police and sheriff's deputies responded. Officers used a thermal imaging device to locate Poleio in the woods.
He was charged with taking deer in closed season. He could be sentenced to two months in jail.
Wardens say Poleio was charged in November while allegedly trying to locate deer at night with a spotlight.
