Vt. Statehouse vigil remembers Sandy Hook victims

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

The nation paused to remember the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting Friday-- one week after a gunman went on a shooting rampage killing 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Conn.

Bells rang 26 times-- in memory of each life lost. The gunman also killed his mother before the massacre and himself afterward.

Vermonters gathered at the Statehouse for a vigil late Friday afternoon. They lit candles and paused to remember the victims. No formal remarks were given at the quiet and somber event.

Other places throughout Vermont and the country held similar observances.
