Norwich pays $1.3M to settle alleged student aid fraud

Posted: Updated:

Norwich University will pay the federal government nearly $1.3 million to settle a fraud complaint.

The Northfield military school was charged with violating the False Claims Act in connection with student financial aid applications.

Federal prosecutors say a former employee of the school had instructed students to assert that they were independent of their parents, even when they were not. That greatly increased the amounts of student aid available to those students.
