Next Christmas, shoppers at the Wal-Mart in Berlin will have more merchandise to choose from.
The store in the Berlin Mall has been given the green light by environmental regulators to expand. The Act 250 permit authorizes the retailer to build an 18-thousand square foot addition to the mall building and to renovate the current store.
Part of the expansion will allow the store to sell more food in an expanded grocery section. The permit will also create 136 more parking spaces at the mall.
Wal-Mart did not get all it wanted. Regulators will not allow a new sign at the mall entrance.
