Mendon woman killed in hit-and-run

Posted: Updated:

Vermont State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run in Mendon. They say a pedestrian was killed on Route 4 after she was hit by two cars.

Police say 45-year-old Drury Morgan from Mendon was hit twice on Route 4 outside the Mountainview Lodge across from the Cortina Inn. The driver of the second car stopped to try to help and called 911, but the driver of the first car fled.

Investigators say Morgan was an employee at the lodge and had stopped there to pick up her paycheck. She left on foot.

Police are looking for a dark-colored crossover SUV, similar to a Subaru Outback.

They are also investigating the possibility that the victim was intoxicated. Police say she was wearing dark clothing.

Police do not expect to file charges against the second driver.
