MORRISVILLE, Vt. -
A new state mental health facility in Morrisville is slated to begin accepting patients this week.
The eight-bed Green Mountain Psychiatric Care Center is housed in a former nursing home that Lamoille County Mental Health has operated as a day-use facility.
It took the state $1.8 million to remodel the building. It's part of a larger plan to house patients in smaller satellite locations following the flooding at the state hospital in Waterbury. Some residents in the Harrel Street neighborhood opposed the change in use for the facility, which initially called for up to 15 beds.
State officials say they hope to break ground on a larger 25 bed facility in Berlin later next month.
