CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Just as it was two years ago, the allowance of guns in New Hampshire's Statehouse will be debated when the Legislature convenes for its new session.
Democrats now control the House and propose to reinstitute a ban on guns and deadly weapons in the chamber and adjacent areas. Republicans repealed the ban on the first day of the session two years ago, as well as a ban on guns and dangerous weapons in the Statehouse complex.
House Speaker Terie Norelli, a Portsmouth Democrat, said Wednesday's vote would only reinstitute the ban in the House chamber and adjacent area. A joint House-Senate committee has control over the rest of the Statehouse and no meeting is scheduled to discuss reinstituting the overall ban.
