Pownal man sentenced for assault

BENNINGTON, Vt. -

A Pownal man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for cruelty to a child.

24 year old Stephen Martin was arrested after a woman reported she saw Martin having sexual contact with a 4-year-old girl. He pleaded guilty in October.

Martin was sentenced to an additional year for obstruction of justice. Authorities say he contacted a woman while in prison attempting to influence her testimony.
