The Burlington City Council will discuss a proposed gun control measure Monday night.
The proposal from Democratic councilor Norm Blais would prohibit possession of military-style rifles and high-capacity magazines within the city.
Vermont law prevents cities from passing gun limiting legislation by ordinance. Blais' proposal would involve amending the city charter, a process that would require approval from voters and the legislature.
