Groups call for Lake George boat inspections

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. -

New York environmental groups are calling for new boat inspection laws for Lake George.

The coalition of Adirondack Park and regional environmental groups want to create a new mandatory boat inspection and cleaning program for the lake to try to stop the spread of invasive species.

The Lake George Park Commission wants to create a program modeled after one at Lake Tahoe.

The governor and the DEC have not endorsed a proposal that would be funded by an increase in boat fees.
