Lawrence Jaques
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -
Investigators say a northern New York man charged with embezzlement stole 10 times more money than first suspected.
Lawrence Jaques, 63, of Keene, was arrested last month after police said he stole more than $50,000 from Torrance Construction in Lake Placid, where he worked as a bookkeeper for 12 years.
State police investigators now say that an examination of Jaques' bank records revealed that he actually embezzled more than $467,000.
The former Keene town councilman is being held for lack of $50,000 bail.
