HINESBURG, Vt. -
Two guns were seized at Champlain
Valley Union High School Wednesday morning, but the school says they were
brought by hunters and never left the parking lot.
School policy prohibits firearms on
school grounds.
Wednesday, the principal of CVU sent a
letter home to parents to let them know that acting on a tip, several cars in
the parking lot were searched and two rifles and ammunition were seized.
Principal Sean McMannon wrote, "While this is an
unsettling event, especially due to the recent Sandy Hook shooting, I am very
pleased that people came forward to set this series of events into motion and I
am 100% confident
that our procedures worked and there is no threat to our community."
McMannon said the students had the guns for hunting and he does not believe they had any intent to harm anyone. But he is reminding students and parents that school policy prohibits having firearms on school grounds.
