NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The No. 6-ranked Norwich University women's ice hockey team ended its mini two-game winless skid with a dominant 10-0 win over St. Michael's College on Wednesday night at Kreitzberg Arena in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East action.
Wearing their special camouflage uniforms for the first time, the Cadets had 15 of 18 skaters get on the score sheet led by senior co-captain Jillayne DeBus, who scored two goals and added two assists for a four-point night. Sophomore forward Kaycie Anderson also tallied four assists for Norwich to help the Cadets improve to 7-2-3 overall on the season and 7-1-0 in ECAC East play.
Junior forward Meghan Papagno scored 7:51 into the game to give the Cadets the only lead it would need for the night when she slipped the puck behind St. Michael's goalie Erin Stevens off a pass from junior defenseman Marie-Philip Guay.
Freshman Paige Foster scored her first collegiate goal at the 13:49 mark of the first to increase the lead to 2-0. Foster tipped a shot past Stevens off a scramble in front of the net with assists going to DeBus and Renee Lortie.
Senior co-captain Stephanie Invernizzi made it 3-0 heading into the first intermission when she wristed a shot past Stevens to the right side of the cage off a feed from sophomore Vanessa Champagne. Junior forward Elle Kadel started the play by finding Champagne streaking up the left side of the ice with an outlet pass from the defensive zone.
The Cadets added three more tallies in the second period with two goals from DeBus and one from Sharman. DeBus first goal at 9:03 of the period was a highlight reel goal as she deked her way through three St. Michael's defenders as well as faked out Stevens before calmly sliding the puck behind the Purple Knights' goalie to make it 4-0.
Norwich tacked on four more goals in the third with Kayla Parsons, Lucie Manhartova, Tyne Gove and Lortie all collecting tallies.
The Cadets outshot St. Michael's 51-2. Norwich sophomore goalie Loren Carrier turned aside both shots to pick up her third shutout of the season and improve her record to 6-1-2. Stevens made 41 stops for the Purple Knights.
Norwich and St. Michael's wrap up their season series on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Purple Knights' Cairns Arena in South Burlington.
