Manchester Police: No drive-by shooting

MANCHESTER CENTER, Vt. -

At first police said it was a drive-by. Now it seems a Manchester Center man shot himself.

Donald Ely-Gardner, 27, was brought to the Manchester Police on New Year's Eve with a gunshot wound.

Gardner told police he was behind a downtown store when someone in a passing car shot at him, hitting him once in the chest.

Police now say he shot himself.

Gardner remains hospitalized at Albany Medical Center in stable condition.
