Ice rescue in Addison

Posted: Updated:

A close call for five ice fisherman in Addison Sunday afternoon -- they fell through the ice into the frigid waters of Lake Champlain.
Officials say a family of three fell through the ice first, and then two other fishermen who tried to help them out also fell in.  Multiple departments responded to the area adjacent to Chimney Point.  According to the Addison Fire Chief, the ice where they fell through is only about one inch thick.  Cold water rescues crews were able to reach the group and pull them to safety.  They were in the water for a little over a half hour.  All five were transported to Porter Medical for evaluation and treatment.
