SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) - Police in Springfield, Vt., are on the lookout for a man who allegedly tried to solicit a 12-year-old girl walking home from school.
The Springfield School District reported a student at Riverside Middle School was walking home around 2:35 p.m. Monday when she was approached by a man near a town shopping plaza off Chester Road and River Street. Police say the unidentified male asked the girl to perform a sexual act and walked behind her for a short period of time. Police said he offered her money.
The girl refused and got away.
The Eagle-Times reports the school district issued an alert to inform parents and guardians of the incident and reminded them to speak to children about staying safe.
