Vermonters love their pets, perhaps more than people in any other states. That's according to a recent survey of U.S. pet ownership by the American Veterinary Medical Association. The group ranks Vermont as the top pet owning state, with 70.8 percent of households in Vermont owning a pet.
After Vermont, states topping the list are New Mexico, South Dakota, Oregon and Maine.
Vermont also ranks at the top of the cat owning states, with 49.5 percent of Vermont households owning a cat.
