Governor Peter Shumlin and Attorney General Bill Sorrell appear to be at odds over a proposal to grant more public access to police records.
Shumlin recently said access to investigation records was too restricted under the current law and wants to use the system used by the federal government.
Under that system, records would be presumed open, except when a private citizen's privacy might be invaded or police investigative techniques might be compromised.
But Sorrell says he does not see a need for change and says Vermont's law is better than the federal government's.
