BROOKFIELD, Vt. -
As a historic floating bridge continues to sink in Brookfield, the price tag for its repair keeps going up.
The bridge has been closed to traffic for the past four years. State officials previously estimated the project would be a $2 million fix. Now that estimate is about $5 million.
Elected officials from the area say they'll push for funding despite a hole in the transportation budget.
"The bill, what it's gotten to be now, I was kind of flabbergasted, but I still think it is a very important bridge," said Rep. Patsy French, D-Randolph.
The floating bridge is one of only two in the country. It's supported by pontoons and was originally built in 1820.
