MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Good news for Vermont schools: the state has the highest high school graduation rate in the country.

In a new study, the U.S. Department of Eduation says 91.4 percent of Vermont high school freshman go on to graduate on time.

Nevada had the lowest rate at 57.8 percent.

The nationwide average Freshman Graduation Rate was 78.2 percent for the 2009-2010 school year, the highest since 1976.

Officials say the trend is hopeful but also say the dropout rate is still too high.
