RUTLAND TOWN, Vt. -

A Rutland man and his girlfriend are unhurt after a car crashed through their home Tuesday night.

Police say a driver traveling on Cedar Lane was speeding when he failed to negotiate a turn, and went off the road into the front corner of the home.

The house sustained extensive structural damage, but crews were able to restore temporary power and heating sources.

Homeowner Lenny Montuori was in the next room and says he was trapped for a short time when the force of the crash sent debris and furniture flying into his office.

"It just was like BOOM! I mean an explosion. And I just went-- you know, I got thrown back. I couldn't image what happened; I had no idea what happened," Montuori said.

Police say the driver of the car fled on foot and remains at large. But a passenger stayed at the scene. They don't believe at this time that alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
