BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Vermont Gas is re-routing a proposed pipeline through Chittenden and Addison counties in response to protests from two towns.
The company wants to extend gas service to Middlebury, Vergennes and across the lake to Ticonderoga, New York. But a planned route through Hinesburg and Monkton was opposed by abutting property owners who worried about the safety of the high pressure line and the impact on property values.
Friday Vermont Gas announced plans to change the pipeline route to follow an existing utility corridor.
