Game officials were forced to put down a moose Saturday that was trapped on an icy river.
Lyndon Center's game warden received a call just after 9 o'clock Saturday morning that a moose was trapped on the ice in the Passumpsic River in St. Johnsbury.
The bank proved too steep for the animal, so the moose continued to swim upriver, where it eventually climbed onto thin ice.
The animal's legs broke through dislocating its hips.
The warden was forced to shoot the moose. Helpful citizens were allowed to take home the carcass for processing.
