BENNINGTON, Vt. -
Bennington officials say they support a measure that would allow the town to raise about $1 million a year through a 1 percent local sales tax.
A bill to allow the tax has been introduced in Montpelier. The town manager says the money could help reduce the property tax and help Bennington compete infrastructure work.
A local sales tax is currently limited to just a small number of town and cities in the state.
